FAQs

Paying for talent and expertise is a luxury. There are plenty of people out there that can take your photo for less. None of them use their camera and lighting like I do. Many won’t spend the time necessary to capture you at your absolute best.
A headshot is a visual first impression. I can’t tell you how much to value that. However, if first impressions are important to you, consider the other things in life that you spend good money on to define your identity. A great headshot is an investment that can be used every day to project confidence and success.
If you want the best of the best, you’re in the right place.

A headshot session generally takes between 60-90 minutes.
A personal portrait session generally takes around 90 minutes.
The length of your session will depend on necessary shoot time, clothing changes, hair and makeup adjustment, and review time.
In order to make sure we capture your perfect shot, we like work with a soft stop time. We want you to be thrilled with your photos, however long that takes. We do request that you don’t schedule anything immediately after your session, if possible, just in case we need a little extra time.

Yes and no. While we don’t offer hair and makeup directly, we have a list of trusted local artists that we regularly work with. We are happy to get you a quote and schedule an artist for your session.
If you’re thinking about it, we recommend booking a professional hair and makeup artist for your headshot session. Why? A headshot will often be your first impression, whether for employers, clients, or coworkers. Therefore, you should be prepared to look like your very best self! Professional makeup artists can help cover blemishes, balance skin tones, tame your hair, and more so that you look and feel your absolute best.
Another added bonus of scheduling a professional is that you do not have to worry about the details. Instead, you can sit back, relax, and focus on showing off your personality at the headshot session. Besides helping you look your best, your professional hair and makeup artist will leave you with an added level of self-confidence and belief in yourself that will radiate through your photos.
Women:
A hair and makeup artist for the session is not required, but highly recommended. The cost will depend on the length of the session and the stylist hired.
The makeup is applied specifically for the lighting we use and we usually start very naturally to give you a very clean simple look. We do touch-ups and will add subtle changes to the makeup as the shoot progresses. If you’d like to start off a little heavier on the makeup we are happy to do that as well, just let us know.
We ask that you come in with your hair ready the way you would like to present yourself. We want your hair in your pictures to be as close as possible to the way you look on an awesome hair day. Of course, our stylist is there to make sure it’s shoot-ready or make any necessary adjustments.
If you need a major changes hair-wise, there may be an extra $50 charge for our stylist to blow it out for you. Make sure you discuss this with us prior to your session, so we are all on the same page.
Men:
We don’t generally recommend makeup on men, but a stylist can provide light grooming for skin and hair on the shoot if you like. Just inquire with us about pricing prior to your session. Our professional retouching usually covers any issues that may arise skin-wise.
If you’d like to shoot with facial hair we’d be happy for you to come in with whatever level of growth you’d like and can shave or trim it down once we’ve gotten the scruff covered. Bring whatever grooming products you’ll need with you to get it done.

We suggest bringing several clothing options, with a range of different cuts, colors, and necklines. Make sure it is something you love to wear! If you don’t feel comfortable in it, you likely won’t shoot well while wearing it.
For our corporate clients, we like men to have a variety of jacket/shirt/tie combos and for women some options of blouse/dress/jacket combos. We suggest keeping jewelry to a minimum, studs or small earrings work and simple necklaces, anything hanging or chunky will usually draw too much attention to itself, but if that’s your speed have at it!
If you wear glasses and have multiple pairs, then we’d appreciate you bringing them along in order to ascertain their glare factor.
If you have any doubt about whether something will work or not just bring it along.
Layers are fantastic for the actors and no need to be seasonal; everything from t-shirts and tank tops to sweaters and light jackets can work. Have some fun with this, if you feel your wardrobe is missing something then go shopping and we’ll keep the tags on it in case you’d like to return the items after the shoot.
We have a steamer in the studio, so we’ll be able to easily sort out any wrinkling for you.

Yes, to compliment your photo session we include photo enhancement and professional retouching on every image purchased. Because headshots offer a close-up view of your face, we’ll work on any skin imperfections and blemishes where necessary. Any editing that is done will be subtle and your photos will still look very natural.
Besides taking killer headshots, Kyle is also an expert retoucher whose work is regularly featured in commercial advertising. He personally refines every photo through his proprietary retouching process and will address any concerns you may have during image selection.
-
Both our professional headshot and personal portrait sessions include 3 retouched selects.
The number of photos you walk away is up to you, though. We’ll capture as many as you like during your session. Each additional photo you select to keep costs an additional $99 per image, for processing, retouching, licensing and delivery.
We’re happy to provide you with a contact sheet of all viable shots for your reference after the shoot, should you want to consider purchasing additional shots down the road.
-
After the shooting portion of your session is complete, we’ll sit down and review each shot individually. After discarding the obvious throw outs, we’ll focus on the images you may want to keep. We’ll then narrow down your selections so you only leave with the best of the best. We’ll offer our input to make sure you have a nice range of shots to utilize from your shoot. We’ll also consult on what can and can’t be done in the retouching. By the end of the session, you’ll decide which images you are going to purchase and they will go off to retouching.
Your new photos will be ready a week after your shoot date. The files will be delivered via Dropbox, both as full-res and low-res (web-ready) jpg files for your immediate use. We can also provide a 16-bit tif file upon request.
